The French view point: Valentine Piciocchi – French exchange with the Jones family
When my parents first talked to me about an exchange, I was immediately thrilled as all I could think of was “great, I’m going to have a sister!” and didn’t even think for a moment about being homesick! I was totally excited until the very moment when I walked away from my parents and stepped into my English family’s car to go to my new home. It was only then that I realised that I was not going to see my parents for a long time, and I cried my eyes out when I arrived at my new house! However, it only took me a few days to adapt, and when I came back to France after 6 months, it took me 2 days to be able to speak French again without any English words or gestures to try and express myself!
